Carl Orff Music Motivational Education

Carl Orff Music Motivational Education is a rich, multifaceted lesson, which is a source of many different activities, combining all forms of art (music, dance, theatre, visual arts), stimulating the holistic development of children.

The combination of arts is the most appropriate way to cultivate aesthetic ability and sensitivity, to stimulate imagination and inventiveness and helps the release of expression and creativity. Through teamwork and collaboration children gradually experience musical concepts, rhythms (traditional and contemporary), musical terms, songs and dances.

Our primary goal is for children to love music, for music to become their joy, their place of rest, their personal expression and creativity. Through our songs, stories develop, we create events, choreographies, we sing and accompany our songs with percussion instruments (drums, sticks, maracas…. xylophones, metallophones, bell phones….). A fairy tale may become the reason to wander the world of music, movement and painting. All elements coexist, are involved and complement each other. Every lesson is an unprecedented experience. Every lesson is a conquest. Each lesson is a new creation for both children and us teachers.

Lena Rodouli (Professor of Music Motivation Carl Orff)

Drama

Theatre and drama workshops help children approach themselves holistically, giving importance both to their psycho-emotional state and to their body.

During drama class, children connect with the creative aspects of their personality, communicate through games and emotions, develop their expressive abilities, cooperation and collective action resulting in deeper understanding and respect for the individuality of both themselves and others. The more roles one plays the closer they come to understanding themselves as a whole. Through the appropriate stimuli it gives equal opportunities to children to create freely.

It also includes the assessment of their emotional state, their behaviour, their communication skills. their self-esteem as well as their school readiness, with the aim of identifying specific psychosocial/psycho emotional difficulties of the child and act if intervention is needed. It also includes individual appointments with parents and working closely with teachers to carry out a comprehensive outcome.

Psychologist's speeches

The school psychologist conducts speeches, which take place at school, on issues related to the specific age group. The subject of these speeches can vary according to the needs and interests of the parents.

Prevention, empowerment and early intervention groups

These groups are formed on the basis of the participation of children at the same stage of development, focusing on the two main areas of prevention and intervention.

These groups focus on the social and emotional field of their development. The aim is to implement activities that highlight children’s creativity, develop their imagination, process their emotions and any difficulties, through play, painting, games and discussion. In addition, the purpose of these groups is to train their social skills, to resolve issues arising in each development phase, but also to promote teamwork and cooperation. The above helps the children shape their confidence and achieves familiarity with their emotional expression.

Depending on the needs that exist each year, the groups are run either only by the psychologist or in collaboration with the speech therapist.

Speech Specialist

Collaboration with the school’s speech specialist includes informing parents about the normal development of speech and encouragement of the family environment, based on the Hanen Program in which she is trained.

She observes the children in the classroom and in the garden, as well as evaluates them at the request of the school or the parents. She provides information and counselling to parents on bilingual issues. An important part of her work is that she is not only the specialist who will deal with the problem, evaluation and intervention, but also the expert who deals with research and prevention, always bearing in mind the normal development of the child.

The Hanen programme
It was created in 1974 by Ayala Manolson At Mc Gill University in Canada. The program includes seminars supporting parents for early intervention at home. Hanen is a “way of life”.

Prevention, empowerment and early intervention groups

The groups created each year in Play and Learn aim to enable each child to have the feeling of “belonging”.

Working and emphasizing the social skills of all children, importance is given to the feeling of belonging to a group where every diversity is acceptable, whether it is about simple articulation immaturity, or social and communication difficulties.

Through these groups the children develop: the skill of taking turns, the skill of expressing one’s opinion and listen to the opinions of others in a small group, the skill of discussion, they develop their concentration and attention skills, they take initiatives and gain confidence, learn to share, play as a group and understand the importance of interaction, observation and imitation. All of the above make the process of intervention fun, interesting, but also functional. The group gives the children the opportunity to practise their skills first in a familiar safe space.

Depending on the needs that exist each year, the groups are run either only by the speech specialist or in collaboration with the psychologist.

Evaluations

The school’s speech specialist performs an early assessment test for children 3.5 to 4.6 years old using well know AnOMILO test.

She also evaluates the children who are about to go to primary school with tests regarding their school readiness using the well-received TRANSFER test of the Panhellenic Association of speech specialist.
